Pick of The Week. (vol. 1)
So I finally decided to issue volume 1 of Pick of The Week. I was flipping through some old pictures today and found a whooole bunch to choose from, BUT I chose to go with some old goodies. This was a couple of years back, (okay so it was actually 1999, which still seems like only a couple of years back for me alright), in the old Lahore airport. I was standing there in the visitor area where people usually wait for their loved ones to come out of the door. If you're familiar with the old Lahore airport, it was that section to the extreme left, right by that little shop that sold overpriced 'bottles' and chip flavours you never knew could actually exist. We were waiting for my dad to finish sorting out all our luggage that was 'MIA' as we went outside and greeted our relatives. As I was standing there, and yeah, we were waiting for quite some time, I couldn't help but notice this bright red sign on one of the marble pillars. Now tell me, if there was a fire in the building, what would you do? Get yourself out of the building, or follow these instructions?
Quick! Dial 01192432538675!! Extension 56433!!
And since we're talking about signs, I took a picture of this one sign through my car once. It turned out only partially visible cuz of the pollution (And the scanner isn't so great). But when I cleared it up, this is what it read:
Now imagine your name in the sky like that!
But honestly, as if sights like these next ones don't make you feel like you're a part of something great.
"Abu why aren't we movi.. oh. ok."
and this one:
If you take a look at the guy sitting on the top with his chin on his hand, 4 people from the left, you might easily picture him sitting right next to you on the subway on your way to work. But is he in an enclosed subway moving relatively close to the speed of sound? No. He's on the top of a bus moving relatively close to the speed of sound.
And then if you look closer (click the image to get a larger view) there's a guy on the right with something held up to his ear. (You can't miss him, his butt's hangin out the window). At first I thought it might be a cell phone, but this picture was taken in 1987 so it definitely wasn't one of those! I leaned in a little further and thought, "Wait a second! Is that...?"
Yep, you guessed it! We all know desi's were the original crew to start sportin their ghetto blasters. :P But tell me, can you imagine yourself on a two hour ride, standing like the guy right next to the guy with the radio? Now that would be a breeze!
